The One About Being Thankful

It’s the time of year where one starts to reflect on the year thus far and all they have to be thankful for. It’s something, I believe, should be done more consistently throughout the year (2019 resolution). But, regardless, it’s still good to reflect. In honor of Thanksgiving I want to take the time to share what I’ve been reflecting on and what I’m thankful for this year.

God

I wouldn’t have everything I need and more if it weren’t for Him. It is one of my 2018 resolutions (more to come on these in a future blog post) to strengthen my faith and that’s something I’ve been doing throughout the year. I have learned the true beauty of His love and am thankful for all that he has provided. I’m also thankful that through the pursuit of growing closer to Him, in turn it has lead to growing in friendships that also want strengthen their faith.

Family

I talk a lot about my family because they are so important to me and the number one thing I’m grateful for. It may always be true chaos when we are all together or even apart but it makes me love them even more. I’m thankful that my relationships with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts, etc. are so strong and that I have an even larger support system beyond my parents and siblings. I know this sounds morbid, but I know how lucky I am that I get to spend another holiday season with both sets of grandparents alive and I’m so thankful for that.

Friends

You know who you are. Oh man, my life would not be fulfilled without the time spent with my friends. Thank you for the constant laughter and memories we’ve shared. When I reflect on my year, usually by looking through pictures,  it always make me smile and thankful to have each and every one of you in my life. I know I’m starting to enter the phase of my life where things are going to change again and realizing I won’t be living with my besties for the rest of my life and it is making me treasure each moment so much more. I’m looking forward to continue to make more memories together!

My Boyfriend

I know, it’s weird for me to say too even after almost 7 months. And for those who didn’t know, yes he’s real. This is something new I get to be thankful for this year and I’m extremely grateful to God for bringing him in my life. He is so kind, patient (I mean he puts up with me…), and passionate. His pursuit in God and the fact we have been able to grow in our faith together, means so much. Not to mention, he’s giving up time with his family and spending Thanksgiving with mine (I don’t think he realizes what he signed up for). I’ve grown and learned a lot through our relationship and I’m extremely grateful for him and the memories we have shared.

Family Pie Contests

I love traditions and this is one that I look forward to every year. My brother, John and I compete in the annual Agnos pie contest. I’m thankful for his willingness to participate (sorry for the loss last year) and all the fun that gets to come along with it. If anyone knows me, they know I’m extremely competitive so it’s especially fun when it’s against your younger brother. To make it even better, it gets all 40+ people at our house every Thanksgiving, to have a little fun. This year we’ve evened the playing field by both making apple pies. May the best baker win, John (likely him). These are the things I will look back on and remember. I’m thankful for traditions like these that I hope to carry on.

As Ross said on Friends, “It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without a little emotional scarring.”

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Katie
